Google launched a new rival to ChatGPT, a conversational AI service named Bard, powered by LaMDA, Language Model for Dialogue Applications.

ChatGPT was launched in November 2022, and since then, its extraordinary capabilities have been revealed by OpenAI. After six years of developing AI, Google has finally unveiled Bard. 

Since its launch, a debate has been started about will Bard will be able to counter ChatGPT.

Although Bard is similar to ChatGPT in generating human-like text, it also offers a few additions that make it different from the latter.

• It initially assists in basic searches on the internet.
• It can extract information from the web.
• With the web-extracted information, Bard can provide more accurate responses.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, revealed about Bard via a blog post, saying, “And today, we’re taking another step forward by opening it up to trusted testers ahead of making it more widely available to the public in the coming weeks.”

In his blog, Sundar Pichai praises Bard, saying that it is committed to bringing together the power, intelligence, and creativity of large language models with the breadth and depth of knowledge available on the planet. Bard provides fresh, high-quality responses based on information from the web.

Bard is currently being launched with the lightweight model version, LaMDA, as it requires less computing power, enabling Google to scale to more users and get feedback.

“We’ll combine external feedback with our own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information. We’re excited for this phase of testing to help us continue to learn and improve Bard’s quality and speed.” said Google and Alphabet’s CEO.

Recently, Google announced a new partnership with Anthropic, an AI Startup. It will be exciting to see how Google’s new conversational AI service Bard will perform and thus compete with ChatGPT.
