Traders’ Body Seeks Ban On WhatsApp, Facebook Over The New Privacy Policy

Sharing is caring!

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has opposed the new WhatsApp privacy policy through which all kinds of personal data contacts, payment transactions, locations, and other essential information of a user of WhatsApp will be acquired by it and can be used for any purpose by WhatsApp.

CAIT has written a letter to Minister of Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, demanding that the government restrict the new WhatsApp policy or impose a ban on the messaging app and its parent company Facebook.

WhatsApp may face a tough road ahead in its biggest user-based market, India, as the traders’ body CAIT has demanded immediate intervention in the case.

Facebook users are more than 200 million in India, and allowing it to access every user’s data can become a serious risk to the economy and even to the country’s security.

WhatsApp stated that to increase the further transparency, they have updated the privacy policy to describe that going forward businesses can choose to receive secure hosting services from their parent company Facebook to help manage their communications with their customers on WhatsApp.

However, it completely depends on the user whether they want to message with a business on WhatsApp.

Many criticisms from users, personalities, and organizations have been built up against the new WhatsApp policy. It has become one of the widely discussed and trending topics since its announcement.
